Pedestrian Hit by Semi on I-94
Illinois State Gov, Dec 03, 2007
Porter County-Early November 4, Sunday morning, at approximately 3:35 a.m., Trooper Lawrence McFarrin responded to a pedestrian that was hit by a semi on I-94 east bound at the 24 mile marker (this is two miles west of the State Road 49/Chesterton exit).
Preliminary investigation revealed that minutes earlier a black 2004 Pontiac Aztec driven by Nicholas Canzoneri, 21 of LaPorte, Indiana, was involved in a single vehicle crash on I-94 west bound at the 24 mile marker. The Aztec had went off the roadway and hit a guard rail on the outer shoulder then went across all three lanes of I-94 west bound and hit the concrete barrier wall. Canzoneri climbed out the driver's window and over the barrier wall and began to cross I-94 east bound and was hit in the far right lane by a semi tractor pulling a box trailer.
The driver of the semi identified as Wayne C. Ward, 53 of British Columbia, Canada, was not injured. He was driving a 2006 Freightliner, carrying for CANUSA Produce out of British Columbia. The Freightliner was loaded with 35,000 pounds of produce. There was no load in the crash.
