Charges Filed In Fatal Accident In Iowa
Des Moines, IOWA — Iowa State Patrol officials announced that charges were filed in relation to a fatal accident in Boone County on July 13, 2006.
At approximately 8:53 A.M. on the 13th, Troopers were dispatched to a personal injury accident at the intersection of 300 th Street and L Avenue in rural Boone County. Upon arrival, Troopers determined the accident involved a Sterling Brand Truck and a Soft Ride bicycle.
Investigation revealed the bicycle, driven by WILLIAM CHARLES PERRIER was northbound on L Avenue when it was struck by the truck traveling westbound on 300 th Street. The truck, driven by WALTER CHARLES SMELTZER, failed to yield the right of way, striking the bicyclist as he crossed 300th Street on L Avenue. Mr.Perrier was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Saturday, July 22nd, Troopers issued two citations to Mr. Smeltzer. These citations were for Failure to Obey Stop Sign and No Insurance.
