Troopers on the Scene of Triple Fatality Crash in Frederick County

(Point of Rocks, MD) - Maryland State Police were on the scene of a multi-vehicle crash with three fatalities on Rt. 15 north of Point of Rocks in Frederick County.

Three people have been pronounced dead at the scene.  Names are not being released at this time because positive identifications and notifications to family members have not been made.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m. today, Maryland State Police from the Frederick Barracks were notified of a multiple vehicle crash in the southbound lanes of Rt. 15, south of the Rt. 340 split and north of the town of Point of Rocks.  Upon arrival, troopers found four vehicles had been involved in the crash and three persons were deceased.

Although in the early stages of the investigation, preliminary information from witnesses indicates a vehicle was northbound on Rt. 15 using the shoulder to pass other vehicles at a high rate of speed.  This vehicle sideswiped a northbound vehicle, causing both vehicles to travel into the southbound lanes and strike two southbound vehicles.

North and southbound lanes of Rt. 15 are closed at this time as the Maryland State Police CRASH Team gathers evidence and conducts an investigation.  State Highway Administration personnel are on the scene diverting traffic around the area.  Northbound traffic can exit at Rt. 464 and southbound traffic should use the Mountville exit to avoid the scene.
