I think the new carpet we had just installed has hazardous toxic chemicals on it. How do I report this?

We had a new carpet installed about two weeks ago. I, along with my parents and sister, have had to go to the hospital because of eye irritation and shortness of breath. The doctors have not conclusively determined the cause of the problem, but they mentioned it is most likely a high level of exposure to a toxic substance. Do I have any cause of action here?

If the carpet was the source of the toxic fumes, you may seek civil action to compensate for the injury incurred to you and your family.  It is required by law for someone to act with the prudence that a reasonable person would exercise under the same circumstances. In this case, the carpet company who installed your carpets may be one party that could be potentially responsible for this toxic tort.  Although the products used to install a carpet may be toxic in nature, the finished product should not be releasing airborne toxic fumes.  Any violation of what a "reasonable carpet installer" would do in the course of an installation of carpets would be considered negligence, which makes the responsible party liable to pay for the damaged caused to the injured party. In this case, you and your family members may of been potentially been harmed and it would be best to seek the advice of an Environmental Lawyer.
